Online Focus Group Agreement

Designed for teen learners
Materials on this website are intended for learners ages 13 and up. While some content and activities may be suitable for younger students, it is the responsibility of the mentor/teacher to verify that the materials are suitable for their learners and their community.

Materials are in development
Teachers and educators should understand that the materials presented on this website are in development. While each piece of the materials have been carefully designed and checked internally, they may not have been thoroughly checked for consistency, suitability, and age/community-appropriateness. It is the responsibility of the teachers and/or mentors to review any materials from this website carefully before presenting them to their students. Furthermore, teachers and mentors are encouraged to provide feedback on any issues they have with our materials, even if they do not present the materials to their students/learners.

It's a research project
This website and all of its content are part of a research project at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), funded by the MacArthur Foundation's Digital Media and Learning initiative. Any information and data obtained from this website and your and your students' feedback may be used for research or educational purposes. This may include potential publications, professional presentations, and other educational uses. Please review our terms and conditions page for further information.

We are collecting research data
This website is created to disseminate our materials as we continue to develop them. At the same time, it serves as a place for us to collect feedback and suggestions from teachers and mentors. Feedback and suggestions will be used to help us improve our materials and provide us evidence for students' use of our materials and their learning progress. Any teachers or mentors accessing the materials in our Online Focus Group archive are required to submit a feedback form after each activity, and are asked to collect feedback forms from their students. Please review the General Instructions page for further information.

Help keep your students' privacy
Because this is a research project and thus we are collecting research and feedback data, educators and students will be asked to complete surveys and forms that may be connected to their activities. Certain portion of this website and other affiliated pages will require students and educators to create a username and password. Teachers and educators are requested to assist their students in generating a non-identifiable, private, and safe username and password when necessary. Student NML user IDs should NOT include portions of their name or location.

Opportunity for an Evaluator Certificate
Some teachers and mentors may wish to participate in our Evaluator Certificate program. Teachers and mentors who can commit to access and use our materials and provide consistent teacher and student feedback at least once a month for 5 months may be eligible for receiving an Evaluator Certificate from the MIT Comparative Media Studies Student - Project New Media Literacies program. Please complete this brief application form to sign up.
