Focus Group General Instructions

In addition to specific instructions for each online activity, please review the following general guidelines and instructions.

General Instructions

All online focus group activities include four major components:

  2. Instructions for a web-based or hands-on activity;
  3. Instructions student projects or discussion;
  4. Students and educator feedback

As a facilitator, you are expected to guide students through all of these steps, to ensure that students complete projects or discussion points, to take note of what students learn, say, and do, and to provide detailed feedback and reflections. In general, the tasks and steps are as follows:

  2. Choose an available activity (or a set of them) that is appropriate for your class or group of teens
  3. Review the instructions and prompt specific to the chosen activities
  4. Verify that the media prompt(s) and the activit(ies) are suitable for your class or group
  5. Guide your students and teens through the activity instructions
  6. Take note of students' engagement, activity, and dialogue during your session
  7. Make sure that all students complete the projects or discussion points detailed in each activity
  8. Engage students in conversations about their feedback
  9. Guide and direct students through the Student Feedback Form
  10. Only one feedback form is required per session (even if you run multiple activities in one session).

  11. Complete the Educator Feedback Form
